On this exciting 3-day, 2-night journey from Marrakech to Fes, you’ll explore some of the most iconic landmarks and landscapes of Morocco in a short but packed itinerary. Starting with a scenic drive through the Atlas Mountains, we’ll visit the stunning Ait-Ben-Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its dramatic clay architecture. Next, we’ll make our way to Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco,” before continuing toward the impressive Dades Gorge and Todra Gorge, where you can marvel at the high cliffs and dramatic rock formations.
Your adventure will take you to the Merzouga Sahara Desert, where you’ll have the chance to ride camels through the vast sand dunes to a luxury desert camp. Enjoy a magical sunset and sunrise, offering incredible views and memorable moments in the desert. Along the way, you’ll also visit the lively Rissani market, where locals trade goods, and Erfoud, a town known for its fossils.
The journey doesn’t end there! You’ll also pass through Ifrane, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco” due to its alpine-style architecture, and visit the cedar forest, home to the playful Barbary macaques. Your 3-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour begins with an early pick-up from your accommodation or the airport in Marrakech. We start by driving through the beautiful High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi-N-Tichka pass. Along the way, there will be several stops to take in the stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.
Next, we visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This fortified village, made famous in numerous films like Gladiator, The Mummy, and the Game of Thrones series, will take you back in time with its ancient mud-brick architecture.
Afterward, we head to Ouarzazate, also known as the "gateway to the desert." Enjoy some free time for lunch before continuing our journey through the Rose Valley, passing by the vast palm groves of Skoura. Finally, we arrive in Boumalne Dades, where you’ll stay overnight.
After breakfast, we begin our day by driving through the Dades Valley, stopping at a scenic viewpoint to admire the breathtaking landscape of the Dades Gorges. Next, we continue to Todra Gorges, a magnificent canyon carved by the Todra River, where towering red cliffs provide a dramatic setting. Feel free to explore and take in the natural beauty of the gorges.
We then make our way through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, with a break for lunch along the route.
In the afternoon, we reach Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Here, you will swap your vehicle for camels to begin your camel trek across the golden sand dunes. A stop will be made atop a high dune, allowing you to enjoy the spectacular desert sunset. Afterward, we continue to the luxury desert camp, where you can enjoy Berber music and dance around the campfire beneath the vast desert sky. Dinner will be served, followed by an overnight stay at the camp.
On the final day of your tour, we wake up early to witness the stunning sunrise over the desert. After breakfast, we return on camels to Merzouga, where our driver will be waiting.
Our first stop will be Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. The town is a lively trading center, especially during market days (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays), where you can explore the bustling Rissani souk.
We then continue to Erfoud, known for its fossilized marble, where we will visit one of the local workshops.
Next, we drive along the scenic Ziz River, stopping for a panoramic view of Ziz Valley. After a lunch break in Midelt, we continue our journey to the cedars forest, home to the Barbary macaques. Take some time to enjoy the forest and feed the friendly monkeys.
We conclude our journey with a visit to Ifrane, a town renowned for its European-style architecture and cool climate, earning it the nickname “the Switzerland of Morocco.”
Finally, we drop you off at your accommodation or the airport in Fes, marking the end of your 3-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour.
