Embark on a 5-day/4-night private tour through Morocco’s stunning desert landscapes, where you’ll experience some of the country’s most famous and breathtaking sites. Your adventure begins with a drive through the High Atlas Mountains, where you’ll cross the famous Tizi-N-Tichka pass, offering panoramic views.
Next, explore the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its ancient fortified village, before heading to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Gateway to the Desert.” From there, we continue through the Draa Valley, home to Morocco’s longest river, and visit Rissani, an important town with a lively market.
In Merzouga, you’ll have the chance to ride camels through the Sahara Desert, watching both the sunset and sunrise over the dunes. You will also spend a night in a luxury desert camp under the stars. Explore the desert’s beauty in a 4×4 vehicle and visit the Dades Valley, Todra Gorges, and the historic Amridil Kasbah.
Finally, return to Marrakech, concluding your incredible journey through Morocco’s diverse landscapes and culture.
Your 5-day Morocco desert tour starts with an early pickup from your accommodation or the airport in Marrakech. We will drive through the High Atlas Mountains and cross the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, stopping for some great views along the way.
Next, we visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the setting for many films, including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Afterward, we continue to Ouarzazate, also known as the "Gateway to the Desert". We’ll have dinner and stay overnight in a hotel.
After breakfast, we explore Ouarzazate, starting with the Atlas Studios, where famous movies have been filmed, and the Taourirt Kasbah, an old mud brick fort.
We then drive towards Agdz, following the Draa Valley, the longest river in Morocco. Along the way, we’ll stop to enjoy the views of palm groves, Kasbahs, and Berber villages. We’ll take a lunch break in Nkob or Alnif.
In the afternoon, we continue towards Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Here, you’ll switch to camels to cross the desert. We’ll stop on top of a dune to watch the sunset, then head to the luxury desert camp for the night. The camp combines traditional nomadic tents with hotel-like amenities. Enjoy some Berber drum music and dance around the campfire under a sky full of stars. Dinner and overnight stay in the camp.
Wake up early to witness the beautiful sunrise in the desert. After breakfast, we ride camels back to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting. The day is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga region, which has many interesting sites like sand dunes, wild lakes, fossil areas, and oases.
We’ll start by visiting an old eyeliner mine, then head to meet the nomads and learn about their lifestyle while enjoying traditional Berber tea. Next, we’ll stop in the village of Khamlia, where you can enjoy Gnaoua music and dance performances by locals who originate from countries like Mali and Niger.
We’ll have lunch at a restaurant before taking a stroll through the palm grove in Merzouga. Lastly, we’ll visit Merzouga Lake, also known as Flamingos Lake. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
After breakfast, we leave the desert and head to Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani is still an important trading hub with a busy souk that is especially lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
After exploring the souk, we continue to Erfoud, where we visit a fossilized marble workshop to learn about the region’s ancient history. Then we drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad before reaching the Todra Gorges. These gorges are stunning, with high red cliffs carved by the Todra River. The area is popular for rock climbers, but it’s also a perfect place to simply enjoy the scenery.
You’ll have free time for lunch in a local restaurant before we continue to the Dades Valley, passing through Boumalne Dades. We’ll make stops at the "Monkey Fingers" rock formation and a spot with panoramic views of the valley. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
On the last day of your tour, we drive to Kalaa Magouna to visit the Rose Valley, famous for its Rose Festival held every May. You’ll see the local products like perfumes, rose water, and oils made from the region’s roses.
Next, we drive through the palm groves of Skoura and visit Amridil Kasbah, a stunning fortress surrounded by palms. Afterward, we reach Ouarzazate, where we’ll have some free time for lunch.
We then continue back to Marrakech by driving through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass and the High Atlas Mountains. We’ll drop you off at your accommodation or the airport, marking the end of your 5-day Morocco desert tour.
